My first craft show and thoughts!

Updated: Apr 7, 2018

Welcome to the Fashionably Adorned blog. I will be blogging about all sorts of stuff. Jewelry of course but also anything that I feel like sharing.... from holistic living, yoga, essential oils, vibrational living, reiki, positive attitude, and any thing else I think of !

As most artists, at some point you need to branch out a bit so you can sell your wares and get your name out in your community.. right!?!

I've been contemplating the craft fair scene.. I found a lead and took it.. I really wanted this to be a good experience NO MATTER WHAT so I knew going in I wasn't putting any pressure on myself and I didn't want to spend a lot of money. I really needed to work with what I had.

I paid $25.oo for the "booth" space which was a provided 8x8 table w/table cloth and chairs.. So to me, this was a killer deal for my first show.

The show was for the local Humane Society downtown in the Mosaic center. A nice old building with character. Old buildings are cool. the architecture is so unique.

When you do craft fairs and shows it's fun to have someone with you.

So I asked my daughter if she'd like to join me and she happily said yes. She ended up picking this necklace as her payment from me. I was grateful she gave up her sat night to hang out with her mom.

I am a vibrational living believer and I wanted to incorporate a bit more of that into my jewelry business. Crystals and gems vibrate to the energy of their handlers. It is believed that the atoms or molecular structure of everything around us is can be affected by thoughts, emotions and events. That is why, in metaphysics, thoughts are things.

So, I decided to make up some jewelry cleansing kits. As we come into connect with others, we store their energies. we as human vibrational beings do this, as well as crystals, gems and stones. The energies need to be cleared out so they can work effectively towards our healing and goal manifestations!

This is where my Jewelry cleansing kits come into play.

These super cool kits come with 1 thick glass candle holder, 2 charcoal discs & a .02 oz packet of Frankincense resin.

In ancient times, resins were considered very sacred. The life-blood of a tree, resin is known for helping to heal wounds, afflictions, and protect against infection by purifying air. It also has a long history of use in ceremonial practices all around the world from some of the most renowned civilizations—from the ancient Egyptians to the Native Americans. It even made its way into the scriptures of the bible as one of the sacred gifts given at the birth of Jesus.

Frankincense resin is collected from trees belonging to the Boswellia genus, it has a lemony, musky odor when burned. It is thought to heighten spiritual awareness and enhance intuition. This makes it perfect for including as part of your meditative practices – especially due to its anxiety-decreasing properties.

Resins can be used to increase the vibration in any space. Whether your home, office, bedroom, or otherwise, burning these resins has the power to transform and deflect unwanted energy, bless a space as sacred and connect you to your higher Self.

Frankincense resin is good for, Protection, purification, spiritual awareness, antidepressant.

This powerful resin produces a heightened spiritual awareness. A recent study revealed how frankincense works as an effective antidepressant and relieves stress. It’s said to enhance intuition, clairvoyance and is ideal to use before meditation. Frankincense was also once worth more than its weight in gold.

There are many different ways to cleanse your crystal jewelry but I like the ritual of burning the resin and dipping or running the jewelry through the wafting sacred smoke.

To cleanse your crystals and jewelry begin by lighting a charcoal round, or break it in half for less burn time. When the charcoal turns white, place a few pieces of frankincense on the round. Any more and the smoke will quickly overpower your space. {I make sure I have a window open or some ventilation bc I'm sensitive to smells} Submerge your crystals and crystal jewelry into the sacred smoke to purify their energy.

We got to the venue about 3 pm and started our set up..

I have a vision of how I want my display to look and what kind of FEELING I want to invoke when people come to my booth.. I want them to feel calm, love, and enough!! I want my look to represent an organic, simple, tasteful, boho, summery vibe!

I've chosen Teal and Light Grey for my colors and I like burlap or some other organic fabric.. clean and simple!

My earring display has been an on going frustration for me. I've tried out a few things in some local shops but nothing that I really felt good about. After some thought, I realized had an old picture frame with the backer board and could just staple some Burlap on to it and have a framed earring display! And I found the perfect easel at Hobby Lobby on clearance for $20.99

I'm REALLY HAPPY with the end result!

I also displayed some of my crystal collection, it was super fun to see the kids eyes light up at the Peacock Ore and My quartz clusters! I put up a slide show on my macbook and had that going with some behind the scenes in the studio and jewelry pics.

I'm going to get some little LED lights for some sparkle effect, I think it draws peoples attention. And I'm also going to get some little succulents to add for character & some geometric glass terrariums to put my crystals in.. I'd rather not have people touching them and also it will make a clear distinction between what's for sale and what's not!

I also printed off little signs so people would know what the jewelry kits were and what/how to use the diffuser jewelry. Just because I know about these things, not everyone does!

AS soon as we got into the venue I knew this wasn't my market. I learned that I am NOT a vendor but an ARTIST.. so I should be looking for artisan craft fairs, art shows, music festivals, fundraisers and any other show that caters to handmade items.. not 3rd party sellers and MLM distributors. Which is what was at the Canines on the Catwalk event.

I was the only one there that had a handmade item.

I'm totally ok with it too, because I know that wasn't my market. It was really fun to set up my display and spend the time with my daughter. I got a lot of compliments and people took my card. I also learned that who you are set up next to can be vital as well. I was next to the first booth upon entry and they were pretty aggressive in their selling. It was a Hempworx booth and the people who weren't interested would go the opposite direction or zoom past my booth to get away from them. They were nice but waaaaay to aggressive for my liking!

All in all I'm glad I did it. It was a great learning experience and I'm excited to do my next one on SAT, April 21st at Central Valley High School for the band and color guard fundraiser. And this one IS my market bc it's a CRAFT SHOW.

Theres FREE admission and I will be donating part of my proceeds to Reforestation since EARTH DAY is April 22. So come say Hi get yourself something beautiful because I know you DESERVE IT and help support healing our planet!

Many blessings
